Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy

Protecting your privacy is important to Community Associations Institute (CAI). We understand the importance our Web users place on their personal information. We want you to understand what information we collect and how we use it.

By visiting www.caionline.org, you are accepting the practices described in this Privacy Policy. Changes to our Privacy Policy will be posted in this statement.

Security

CAI takes every precaution to protect your information. When you submit sensitive information via the website, your information is protected.

When you enter sensitive information, such as a credit card number, the information is encrypted with industry standard encryption software—SSL. While on a secure page, such as our order forms and membership applications, the lock icon displays on the bottom of the Web browsers such as Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer.

Information Collection and Use

CAI collects information in several ways on our website. Personal information is collected when you: sign up for membership, register for a Professional Management Development Program course, register for a conference, seminar, workshop, or homeowner education course, purchase a publication or item in the store, contact CAI via e-mail through the contact form, sign up to receive newsletters or be put on an e-mail list, post messages on the message board, or make any kind of purchase.

The type of information collected includes: names, addresses, e-mail address, telephone and fax numbers, credit card information, and information on your preferences regarding membership.

Information collected from other areas of the site is used for billing purposes and to fill customer orders. Contact information may be used to contact you regarding your purchase or request. Information on preferences is stored in your record and used for membership purchases.

At times, e-mail and postal addresses are used to contact members in order to generate volunteer support for the organization or to send surveys to collect data for industry research.

Cookies

Cookies are files stored on a user's computer. They are correlated to the particular user but are not linked to any personally identifiable information. CAI uses persistent cookies, which reside on the user's computer for an extended period of time, and session cookies, which terminate once the user closes the Web browser, to enable use of the Members Only and Store  sections of our site. The cookies are used to maintain log-in information and shopping basket contents.

You can opt to decline cookies or delete them at your discretion. Web browser "help" files will provide proper instructions. If you choose not to accept cookies, you may not have access to the full benefits of the website. For example, you will not be able to access information in the Members Only section.

Log Files

Like most websites, CAI's website uses log files. The log files include IP (Internet protocol) addresses, browser type, referring pages, and time/date stamp, but they are only used to determine overall demographic information about our visitors and are not linked to personally identifiable information. CAI uses these statistics in order to provide better service and to improve the function and quality of the site for you and other users. We monitor aggregate data with WebTrends Log Analyzer.

Sharing

CAI may on occasion provide names and mailing addresses of CAI members to product and service providers and/or CAI business partners for promotion of their products and services. CAI does not release e-mail addresses, phone or fax numbers, or any financial information on such membership mailing lists. CAI does not release the names and addresses of community association members to management companies. If you would like to have your name removed from the mailing lists we provide to outside parties, please contact CAI Direct by phone (888) 224-4321 or (703) 548-8600, by fax (703) 684-1581, or via e-mail admin@caitenn.org and request removal from mailing list rentals. CAI does share member addresses, phone and fax numbers, and e-mail addresses with its local/, regional and/or state chapters who sometimes publish membership directories that might contain such information.

CAI uses an outside source for credit card processing. This company does not retain, share, store, or use personally identifiable information for any secondary purposes.

CAI also uses outside sources for website hosting. The ISPs have access to information stored in our Web databases and log files. The data is stored for display or order processing as appropriate. The servers that store this information are in a secure environment provided by our hosting companies. CAI employees who need information to perform a specific job such as order processing are granted access to personally identifiable information.

Advertisers have access to information pertaining to their particular ad, and are not provided any personally identifiable information.
